PLW Patiala is a fully owned Production Unit of Indian Railways, which was setup in October 1981 as “Diesel Component Works (DCW), to meet the ever-increasing demand of high precision maintenance spares of ALCo diesel locomotives. It is located at the heritage city of Patiala and is the pride of Punjab. With 3000+ employees, the unit sprawls over 557 acres of land along-with its integrated township.

After successfully meeting this objective under Phase-I of the project, another major activity of Mid-life rebuilding (MLR) of ALCo locos was introduced in 1989-90 under Phase-II. During MLR, the 2600 HP locomotives were upgraded to 3100/3300 HP locos, besides applying other retro-upgrades like AC-DC transmission, improved fuel efficiency and reduced periodicity of maintenance etc.  With the change in its core activities, the unit was rechristened as “Diesel Loco Modernization Works (DMW)” in 2003.

Qualification:

Electrician:

• Passed 10th class or equivalent with Science and Mathematics subjects under 10+2 education system with at least 50% aggregate marks
• in electrician trade ITI pass

Mechanic (Diesel):

• Passed 10th class or equivalent class with at least 50% aggregate marks under 10+2 education system
• ITI pass in Mechanic (Diesel) trade

Machinist:

• Passed 10th class or equivalent with Science and Mathematics subjects under 10+2 education system with at least 50% aggregate marks.
• TI pass in mechanical trade

Fitter:

• Passed 10th class or equivalent with Science and Mathematics subjects under 10+2 education system with at least 50% aggregate marks.
• ITI pass in Fitter Trade

Welder:

• Passed 10th class or equivalent with Science and Mathematics subjects under 10+2 education system with at least 50% aggregate marks.
• ITI pass in welder trade

Salary:

• 1st year of training – Rs. 7000/- per month
• 2nd year of training – Rs. 7700/- per month
• 3rd year of training  – Rs. 8050/- per month

Selection Process:

• Selected on the basis of merit based on their marks obtained in ITI & 10th. A weightage of 50% to marks scored in relevant trade in ITI & a weightage of 60% shall be given to marks scored in 10th board.
• If two or more candidates secure equal marks while preparing merit list, then the candidate of higher age will be considered.
